People often connect augmented reality (AR) with virtual reality (VR) but both technologies operate through distinct mechanisms. The authentic environment remains visible for users to experience while technology adds extra digital material to the space. The AR technology creates a space which blends digital elements with physical reality instead of constructing an entirely distinct virtual environment.
Virtual reality operates through its complete substitution of actual environments with virtual environments created by computer systems. Users of VR technology need to wear headsets which block their view of actual surroundings while they experience digital spaces which include games and simulations as well as virtual environments. The system intends to create an immersive experience which allows users to experience the virtual world as if they were part of it. AR technology adds virtual elements to actual environments while VR technology creates entirely new virtual worlds which users can explore.
